New Director of Pueblo & Focus on Santa Barbara City Elections

6:30PM refreshments/mingling and at 7PM we get down to business.

402 E. Gutierrez Street, across from Home Improvement, but enter through parking lot off Olive Street in rear of building* (The meeting location will change in June. Check your email or www.pdsb.us for updates!)

Our meeting on May 18th, 2011, will address the immigrant situation in our community and our state.  Our guest will be the new director of Pueblo, Mark Alvarado, who will tell us about “Secure Communities”, a controversial law in California, and how it affects the undocumented workers and their families in Santa Barbara.  Many Latino family members are being deported to Mexico under the radar without having committed a crime, wrenching local families apart.  Learn about s new bill pending in Sacramento to address this inhumane law called “S-Comm”.  When will the comprehensive immigration reform promised by President Obama become a reality in our country?  Progressive Democrats of America will push for an answer to this question.

We will also discuss our endorsements for the November Santa Barbara City Council Election. If you are a Democrat seeking our endorsement please come to the May or June meeting to present to our members!

Please bring your friends and family and get informed and involved in Progressive issues and actions happening now!

Peace, Progress, Courage & Compassion,
